UK Muslim Leader Wins ‘Outstanding Contribution’ Award.

LONDON – The Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), Harun Khan, has been awarded the ‘Outstanding Contributions to Communities’ Award at the Investing in Ethnicity Awards held on November 1.

“It was an honor to be considered in a category of fantastic people like Doreen Lawrence OBE, whose work we at the MCB look up to, let alone win the award for Outstanding Contribution to Communities!”, Khan said, MCB reported on its website.

“I’m very humbled by the award and proud of the team behind the work we do,” he added

The awards ceremony was held at held at London’s Waldorf Hilton hotel.

Founder of the awards, Sarah Garrett MBE, said: “It’s so important that celebrities, influencers, brands and those in the public eye recognize the importance of promoting black and ethnic minority talent particularly when people from this community can still be marginalized in many parts of life.

“These awards are about breaking down barriers and celebrating role models.”

The award, presented by Zack Morris from BBC’s Eastenders, was also welcomed by the MCB.

We’re thrilled his tireless work in engaging and strengthening communities has been recognized – being Secretary General and having a full-time job is no easy task!” the group said in its statement.

“He was up against a fantastic line up of people, who all deserve recognition for the amazing work they do.”

The MCB has moved in recent years to be a more influential institution looking to improve the circumstance of British Muslims, both internally within the Muslim community as well as externally with the non-Muslim community. The MCB’s primary objective is “to promote cooperation, consensus, and unity in Muslim affairs.”
