Muhammad the Sixth Foundation for Africa Olamaa (Scholars) Sierra Leone Chapter Organized Their First Annual Quranic Competition in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The great event of its kind took place on Sunday the 31st of March 2019 at 10 a.m. @ the Head Quarters of the Sierra Leone Muslim Missionaries’ Union (SLMMU) Shell New Road Lorry Park Kissy. The event was remarkable and attracted Muslims across the board.
The judges were Sheikh Yusuf, Mahmoud Manaa, Sheikh Umaru Ibrahim Hassan of Al-azhar Mission and Sheikh Mohammad Makah Bah of Ansar Mission. The participants were 38 in number and were divided into two categories.
10 of them were competing in the full Qur’an category while 28 were competing for category of half of the Quran with Tajweed as an added advantage. All the participants of the full Quran category were given questions from several verses in the Qur’an. The competitors were given equal right and everyone was allowed to read freely on their own. The head of the judges, Sheikh Yusuf Mahmoud Manaa before announcing the results praised all of them for doing their best but in any competition there is a winner and the winner will represent Sierra Leone in morocco sometime this Ramadan.
The winner therefore must be properly screened to prove his capability here before going to morocco for the international competition. He said that all those who took part are winners in away. He also said that among the 28 contestants; judges are looking at the quality of pronunciation, skills of reading, and voice. Sheikh Manaa said, they enjoyed some certain voices may Allah bless them and continue to give them more knowledge and understanding.
The 15 Juzu category result was in favor of Hassan Kamara seconded by Mariama Barrie, the only lady in the race. The first position of the full Qur’an category was given to Chernor Sa’ad Jalloh and was seconded by Mohamed Jagitay. Sheikh Mohamed Makkah Bah said that, everyone who took part in the competition will be given the same price, (gift) because all of them did well, only that the winner will represent Sierra Leone in morocco in Ramadan 1440 A.H. Inshaa Allah.
